Current Timeline

  • September 17 2007 -Grant Directors meet with district superintendents; project overview, ongoing needs assessment.
  • Week of Oct 1 — Grant Directors, superintendents or district designee, Principals assistant Principals Meet; project overview; ongoing needs assessment.
  • Week of October 1 — STAR Web page will be posted by October 15th.
  • October 19th - Superintendents, principals, grant directors, site Visits / Learning Walks on Somerville, Snook & Hearne campuses (Required Leadership training component); dates for Fall PD, Spring PD and Summer PD week planned as well as additional five days for 2007-2008.
  • By Thursday, October 11th Principals select Design Team Members; submit form for Learning Walk to Project Director
  • By October 15 Project Directors meet and train Snook ISD technology mentors for design teams
  • November 9th, First fall PD day at TAMU; Superintendents provide 10 minute keynote; principals, assistant principals must attend; district administrators must attend; lunch provided
  • By January 4th, Mentor / Tech Coach Tablet PC training held.
  • By January 11th, second fall PD held — site TBA; principals / assistant principals, district representatives must attend; lunch provided.
  • February 22 3rd. PD day held.
  • May 9th 4.th Pd Day held. TI Navigator training for Jr. High and High School Teachers. TRACKSTAR and PowerPoint training for Elementary teachers
  • August 11th to 14th Summer Institute - District administration representatives; campus principals and assistant principals must attend at least 50% of each PD day for required leadership component activities.
  • Saturday, October 4th – Technology Coaches Meet in Snook 9-1 for professional development and submission of monthly coaching logs.
  • Friday, October 10th – STAR Fall 2008 PD Day 1 – at TAMU Rm 632 – tentative agenda for a.m. – TI NSpire calculator training.
  • Monday, October 13th – Hearne Air Fair Teacher In-Service – open to all STAR teachers – send reply to apatra@tamu.edu ASAP if interested in participating; STAR will cover mileage costs – cannot cover lunch for day trips.
  • Saturday, Novuber 1st – Technology Coaches Meet in Snook 9 AM-1PM for professional development and submission of monthly coaching logs.
  • Thursday & Friday, November 6th and 7th – Region 6 Technology Conference – logon to conferences.esc6.net/technology to submit a conference proposal session now!; STAR can pay for a limited number of subs for this conference. If interested, send interest to apatra@tamu.edu ASAP.
  • Friday, November 14th – STAR Fall 2008 PD Day 2 – at TAMU Rm. 632 – agenda pending
  • Tentative - Monday, November 17th – STAR Teaching & Learning Tours of STAR campuses – conducted by Drs. Kathryn McKenzie, Lauren Cifuentes, and Gerri Maxwell; all STAR administrators and Snook mentors attend.

STAR grant proposes a panel session for the upcoming UCEA convention titled:

Insight Into the Development of Professional Learning Communities:
A Conversation Among Members of a Teacher Professional Learning Community and Three University Scholars

The Theme of this year’s UCEA convention is:

Preparing Democratic Educational Leaders To Foster Quality Teaching and Student Success: A Time for Action.

Three Hearne teachers will participate to the Panel to share Hearne ISD’s Professional Learning Community experience.
